Study on a Solar Heating System using Low Temperature Radiators (2013)

The University of Constantine, in Algeria, conducted a study on a solar heating systems using low temperature radiators, which  was presented at the 16th International Thermal Days conference taking place in Marrakech in November 2013.

The objective of the study was to do a simulation of a solar heating system using solar collectors connected to oversized central heating radiators in order to function at low temperature. In addition to collectors and radiators, they have also used a water storage tank and an additional energy source.

Regional Market Assessment Report in the Mediterranean Countries

The purpose of this regional market assessment report is to help overcome some relevant barriers which currently prevent solar water heating (SWH) systems from providing a larger share of energy supply in Mediterranean countries, i.e. the lack of knowledge and trust on the technology, as well as the lack of systematic statistics on the solar thermal market and industry, and the very limited return on experiences.

Market Assessment Report and Solar Thermal Action Plan for the Mediterranean Region

“The Mediterranean region is endowed with a significant market potential and could become a frontrunner in the development of solar water heating and cooling technologies in several application areas.” This is one conclusion of the study “Solar Thermal in the Mediterranean Region - Market Assessment Report” published in September 2012. The association Observatoire Méditerranéen de l'Energie (OME) worked on both the report and a “Solar Thermal Action Plan” for the Mediterranean Region, which was published in December 2012, on behalf of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) (see the attached documents).

Algeria: Roll-out of the first Phase of Subsidy Programme ALSOL

 Thermosiphon systems in Algeria” The Algerian solar water heating programme ALSOL went into its first pilot phase. 400 residential systems with a 200 litre storage tank have been subsidised at around 45 % of the investment costs, capped at Algerian Dinar (DZD) 110,000. The licenses for installing the 400 subsidised systems were distributed among 15 solar thermal system suppliers in January. Largely, those thermosiphon systems consist of 1 collector, as can be seen on the photo on the left.

Regulatory Framework for CST Promotion (2010)

This document is one of the deliverables of the MED-CSD project. The main aim of this FP7 project is the assessment of the technico-economic potential of CSP for electricity and desalination in the Mediterranean region.
