Re-energising Europe. Putting the EU on Track for 100% Renewable Energy (2013)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on February 14, 2013

This report, published by the NGO WWF Europe, looks at Europe’s energy consumption by 2030. If the right policy measures are put in place, by 2030 the European Union could:

Procedures for Environmental Performance Assessment of Solar Thermal Systems (2007)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on January 3, 2013

This document provides an overview of an environmental fact sheet produced by EU-funded project NEGST (New Generation of Solar Thermal Systems Project) which allows comparing the environmental performance of different solar thermal systems and other heating systems.

The Environmental Fact Sheet includes the following categories:

Industrial Perspectives in Solar (2012)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on December 20, 2012

This presentation - made by Sonnenkraft's Christian Sadler - examines recent develoments in the European solar thermal market, and looks forward to likely developments in the next years. It begins by highlighting thtat the heating sector accounted for 48% of the EU's energy consumption in 2010, and yet remains underestimated by policy makers. It then confirms that solar thermal energy has firmly established itself as the superior solution for heat production when compared with PV.

Energy [R]evolution. A Sustainable EU 27 Energy Outlook (2012)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on November 20, 2012

This report was commissioned to the German National Centre for Aerospace, Energy and Transport Research by Greenpeace and the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC). It concludes that around half a million jobs could be created in Europe by 2020 if renewables energies and energy efficiency were to be given priority in the political agenda over nuclear power and fossil fuels. This would require a drastical change in the way we produce, consume and distribute energy which encompasses the following 5 principles:

Solar Thermal Markets - On Track for 2020? (2012)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on October 7, 2012

This presentation by ESTIF's Robin Welling - given at the  2012 Renewable and Cooling Platform - analyses 2011 statistics for the EU solar thermal market, in order to evaluate whether member states are collectively on track to meet their 2020 targets. Overall, the market levelled off in 2011, with all the major markets except Germany (which had +11% growth) experiencing a decrease in installed capacity.

Debating the Way to a Mediterranean Solar Plan (2009)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on January 10, 2012

This is a presentation from Dr. Albrecht Kaupp (MED-EMIP Team Leader) during the “MENA Energized: Regional Challenges to "Green the Power" Sector” event held in June in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. It was jointly organized by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the Euro Mediterranean Energy Market Integration Project (MED-EMIP).

Solar Thermal Markets in Europe. Trends and Market Statistics 2010 (2011)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on January 3, 2012

As in previous years, ESTIF, the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation, has issued this publication with detailed data and numbers about the solar thermal market in the EU 27 and Switzerland in 2010.

In 2010, the European solar thermal market totalled 2.586 MWth (3.694,940 m²) of newly installed capacity, decreasing by an estimated 13% in comparison with 2009 numbers.

Technology Review and Selection of CSP and Desalination Configurations (2009)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on December 20, 2011

This Final Report is the deliverable of Work Package (WP1) from the MED-CSD Project. Designed to assess combined solar power and desalination plants’ technico-economic potential in Mediterranean Partner countries, it was a project funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme (FP7). It ran between June 2008 and June 2010.
