Greenonetec HaierThere has been another Sino-European cooperation on solar thermal in recent weeks. On 18 May, Chinese-based Haier Group, one of the largest manufacturers of household appliances in the world, bought a 51 % stake in Austrian collector manufacturer Greenonetec, based in St Veit in southern Austria, from its sole shareholder, Robert Kanduth. Both parties share 50:50 voting rights and Kanduth has remained as managing director of the world’s largest flat plate collector factory. The objective of the two shareholders is to establish licenced production of large-scale flat plate collectors in China and offer selected Haier products with the help of Greenonetec’s distribution network in Europe. “Germany is one of the most challenging markets”

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on March 28, 2015
Albert LooschenThe Chinese Haier Group is a fairly young company, which has grown into a huge and still rapidly expanding corporation. Founded in 1984, Haier currently has 70,000 employees and achieved a turnover of USD 29.5 billion in 2013. For five years now, the group has headed the ranking of the largest household suppliers worldwide. In 2007, it started to manufacture solar collectors at its Chinese headquarters in Qingdao, Shandong Province, and has since offered solar thermal systems on the national, as well as the international market. The man who started the sale and distribution of Haier’s solar thermal products in Germany in 2011 was Albert Looschen. Since that time the energy consultant has managed the solar thermal activities of Haier Deutschland, and solarthermalworld.org spoke with him at the ISH fair in Frankfurt in March. Prior to Haier, Looschen had been working as an independent energy consultant for seven years.

Germany: Haier’s Loss Leader Strategy

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on April 27, 2012

Haier in Nuernberg at IFH Internationally operating Haier Group, the world’s fourth largest appliance manufacturer, has caused quite a stir prior to the IFH/Intherm (Trade Fair for Sanitation, Heating, Air Conditioning, Renewable Energies ), which took place in Nuremberg, Germany, at the beginning of April. The fax that the Chinese group’s German sales office, Haier Deutschland GmbH, had sent to plumbers and distributors in Southern Germany showed a bargain price of 666 Euros for an entire solar thermal hot water system.
