ISES Award for Professor Klaus Vajen: “A great honour and motivation for future endeavours”

Dr Klaus VajenDr Klaus Vajen is the winner of the Achievement through Action Award of the International Solar Energy Society, ISES. The German professor from the University of Kassel and his research group were presented with the award during the Solar World Congress in South Korea at the beginning of November. The ISES award honours persons who have made significant achievements and contributions toward the advancement of solar energy systems and applications. Vajen joins an illustrious group of previous award recipients from the solar heating and cooling sector, such as Dr Adolf Goetzberger from German Research Institute Fraunhofer ISE (1993), Panos Lamaris, President of Greece collector manufacturer Sole (1999), Werner Weiss, Managing Director of Austrian Research Institute AEE INTEC (2003) and Professor Yin Zhiqiang from Tsinghua University, Beijing (2005). The prize is endowed with USD 1,900.
 

China: Several Thousand Dollar Prizes for Best Solar Thermal Shots

 Logo Sunrain Photo Award” The Sunrain photo contest has begun. In cooperation with international magazine Sun & Wind Energy, the Chinese solar water heater manufacturer will award prizes to the photographers who best capture solar thermal installations and technologies. “We would like to increase confidence in the solar thermal industry by showing to the world how great the technology looks in the field,” explains Chen Liang, Marketing Planner for International Business Development at Sunrain Group.

China: Fully integrated Vacuum Tube Production Line now also at Tsinghua

 Inauguration of almost fully integrated vacuum tube production line at Tsinghua” Tsinghua is the fifth Chinese manufacturer to inaugurate an almost fully integrated vacuum tube production line. At the end of April, the company based in Beijing invited stakeholders from politics, research and the solar thermal sector to visit the factory. Himin was the first to commission automated production lines in Dehzou in 2009. The Linuo Group celebrated the opening of its new factory in Zhangqiu, Jinan province, in July 2010. Sunrain/Micoe followed in October 2010 with the inauguration of a new factory in Luoyang, Henan province. And Sunshore has produced vacuum tubes at its new factory site since the beginning of the year 2011. Photo: Tsinghua

China: International Metal Solar Industry Alliance founded

 IMSIA Press Meeting at the Beijing Hotel” The Beijing branch of the International Copper Association (ICA) has formed the International Metal Solar Industry Alliance (IMSIA) in November 2010. “The alliance will provide a platform for its members to share best practices and cooperate in promoting copper solar thermal technologies,” Joseph Huang, Project Manager of the Building Energy Management section, explained. The alliance was officially presented to the public at a press meeting at the Beijing Hotel on 15 November 2010.

China: Major Fairs for Solar Thermal in 2011

 Solar Thermal China Logo” China is the largest market for solar thermal products in the world. The annual production of solar water heaters grew from 6.1 million m2 in 2000 to 42 million m2 in 2009. The importance of the solar thermal sector produced lots of regional and national trade fairs. Chinese Company Sunrain, the largest manufacturer of vacuum tube collectors worldwide, has recommended the visit of three fairs, which were the major events for solar thermal technology in China in 2011. The new international Solar Thermal China exhibition by German trade fair organiser Koelnmesse has additionally been added to the list below. It will take place in June for the first time.
