The largest solar cooling plant built in Australia so far has been running since April 2011. The solar-assisted cooling installation is a project by the Echuca Regional Health, a public hospital in Echuca, around two and a half hours drive north of Melbourne.

The currently largest solar thermal system in Serbia is installed on the employee and visitor parking garage of the hospital in the Serbian town of Zreňanin, according to the director of the Serbian Solar Institution, Miroslav Lambiča. 200 solar collectors manufactured and set up by Slovakian company Thermosolar have generated heat for this central hospital since December 2010.

South Korean company Jehin Co. Ltd finished the first demonstration project which uses its newly developed extra large flat plate collectors of 10 m² each, called “Mega Collectors”. The company's costumer is Mirae Hospital located in Kimje, Junbuk, South Korea, with 709 beds and a daily hot water consumption of 80,000 litres. Jehin delivered 104 collectors with a total surface area of around 1,040 m². The company mounted them on the ground in the near surroundings of the hospital and took the system into operation on 10 March. Air source heat pumps are used as the system's backup heat source.

Looking at the future development of the Indian solar thermal sector: The figures above show the most realistic scenario by New Delhi based consultancy Greentech Knowledge Solutions. The residential market will also dominate in the years to come, still retaining a market share of around 80%.

The Master Plumbers and Mechanical Services Association of Australia (MPMSAA) and Sustainability Victoria jointly produced the Large Scale Solar Thermal Systems Design Handbook, which provides guidance in best practice approaches for designing large-scale solar hot water systems.

37 commercially installed solar thermal systems of between 50 and 500 m² received subsidies in Thailand over the last two years. Nevertheless, the sector shows a lack of professional service to operate these solar systems at an optimum efficiency.

The demonstration of best practise - a solar thermal system on the roof of the Saida Governmental Hospital - showed some technical deficiencies at second glance. The monitoring of the system led to a check list including preventive maintenance advice.
