World Bank Group Role in Supporting Solar Power (2010)

This is a presentation by Dr. Natalia Kulichenko-Lotz about the World Bank Group and the activities and projects it finances to boost the use of renewable energies all over the world.

The presentation explains the main financial instruments that the World Bank has put in place for the energy sector like loans, guarantees, the IFC (International Finance Corporation) debt and equity, the GEF (Global Environmental Facility), the CTF (Clean Technology Fund), carbon finance, the ESMAP (Energy Sector Management Assistance Programme).

Thematic Review of GEF-Financed Solar Thermal Projects (2001)

This paper reports the developments of four projects financed by the UN Global Environment Facility (GEF) in India, Morocco, Mexico and Egypt. The GEF chose those countries to develop solar thermal power technology as it has shown to be one of the most cost efficient options for renewable bulk power production, besides being the most cost-effective way of producing electricity from solar radiation.
