This presentation was delivered by Mr. Rafik Missaoui, a Tunisian Energy expert, during the “MENA Energized: Regional Challenges to "Green the Power" Sector” event held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The event was jointly organized by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the Euro Mediterranean Energy Market Integration Project (MED-EMIP).

This presentation was created by Pete Shoemaker of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). It covers the current state of the solar thermal industry, some of the basic science behind solar thermal heating, and analyzes a few examples of solar thermal heating in action.

The presentation of the Mesa Solar project occurred during the “International Solar Energy Forum on the Development of Solar Technology and Industry under the Financial Crisis” in Lanzhou, China. The goal of the presentation was to attract investors by raising the awareness about Uruguay’s potential in this sector.

In the services sector, hotels are a high energy consumer, which offers a good opportunity to promote the use of renewable energy sources, including solar thermal, in the tourism sector, especially in the Mediterranean region, as this paper emphasizes.

This paper goes through the potential of the RES' use in the total energy consumption of hotels situated in the Spanish Balearic Islands, a very famous touristic destination, with about half a million beds available.

This document prepared by the US Department of Energy in 2004, is meant to inform consumers about the use of solar thermal technologies for water and space heating, namely how it works, its benefits, tips to select contractors, incentives schemes and other practical information on how to purchase a solar heating system, its requirements and maintenance obligations, as well as the estimated payback times.
