Germany/Belgium: Container Solutions to Standardise Commercial Solar Thermal Systems

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on February 2, 2016
Aschoff SolarStandardisation and prefabrication of solar thermal systems remains key to the delivery of high quality, cost-optimised solutions. Solar pumping and refilling stations attached to and insulated with the storage tank have already been standard in residential systems in Central Europe. Current developments from German system supplier Aschoff Solar and Belgium system supplier Sunoptimo show that prefabricated solutions are also possible for large-scale, commercial systems between 50 m² and 2,000 m² of collector area. Both companies use containers equipped with a storage tank and all other hydraulic components. The photo shows the most current installation of Aschoff Solar at the Severin Sea Lodge in Mombasa, Kenya. The 260 m² vacuum tube installation on the roof provides hot water for the guest and staff lodges, with one container including the storage tank and the hydraulic.

Thailand / Brazil / Central America: Business Trips for German Stakeholders

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on April 23, 2013

Countries in Southeast Asia have big plans for solar energy. Thailand’s government in particular knows precisely how its future energy and environment policies should look like. It has pledged to both expand the use of renewables and improve energy efficiency across the nation. Until 2021, the government aims at a share of 25 % from renewable sources, while decreasing the total energy consumption by up to 20 % compared to 2005. These are some of the figures presented at the information meeting “Solarthermie in Industrie und Gewerbe in Thailand: Potentiale für deutsche Unternehmen” (translated as “Solar thermal in Thailand’s industry and trade: Potential for German companies”), which the Agency for International Cooperation, GIZ, held in Berlin, Germany, at the beginning of March. The GIZ also supports a business trip, which will take place from 27 to 31 May this year. The trip for German entrepreneurs is organised in cooperation with the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce (AHK Thailand). The photo shows the installation of a large-scale solar thermal plant in Thailand.

Thailand: Prefabricated Container Solution Improves Quality in Tannery

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on April 9, 2013

Danish shoe producer ECCO runs the largest solar thermal installation in Thailand: 1,890 m² of vacuum tube collectors provide the company’s factory in Ayutthaya with up to 80 tons of hot water per day. Planned and installed by German engineering company Aschoff Solar, the process heat installation supplies the different tanning processes with water at temperatures between 35 and 70°C. The photo shows the three stackable containers, including the ready-to-use tanks, pump groups and heat exchangers prefabricated in Germany. The system offers a solar controller with graphical display and online remote control.
