This pamphlet was created by the public-private partnership of the German company MAN Ferrostaal, the German Energy Agency, and the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. Its focus is on how this public-private partnership brought a solar thermal system to a school in the Middle East, its positive social benefit, and how it is opening doors to the development of the Middle Eastern solar thermal market.

Talitha Kumi is a school in Bethlehem that hosts K-12 programs, a hotel management college, and other social programs. The school was founded over 100 years ago by a German, and the German government has continued this tradition by sending teachers for many years. A former German Foreign Minister approach MAN Ferrostaal about donating a solar thermal energy system to the school because it had been suffering from budget constraints due to high utility costs. The company agreed, and through a public-private partnership with German ministries the school was able to receive the solar thermal system. The pamphlet then interviews a MAN Ferrostaal executive who says that the company agreed because they wanted to develop a foothold in the Middle Eastern market; which has huge potential for growth because it is located in the planet’s sun belt.

In conclusion, this pamphlet describes the ways in which solar thermal companies can benefit from corporate social responsibility. By investing in a community and engaging with locals a solar thermal company can establish positive brand recognition and connections in developing markets.
