Three-year incentive programme in Malta with a total of 7,500 systems

The government of the Mediterranean Island of Malta has launched a three-year incentive programme at the beginning of this year. It targets low-income families on the main island, as well as all residential home owners on the island of Gozo. 2,500 families are planned to receive a rebate of a maximum of 560 Euro each.

Families on Malta, which 

  • are entitled to energy benefits
  • have a low income
  • receive supplementary assistance
  • are first-time buyers of property with a value of up to EUR 120,000

On the Island of Gozo, all residential home owners are eligible for the rebate programme independent of their income. 

Amount 2009: open to all domestic households - 66 % of the eligible costs (system and installation costs)

2010: limited to particular kinds of households - reduced to 40 % of the eligible costs  

Maximum incentive  2009: maximum of EUR 460 per system

2010: maximum of EUR 560 per system

Requirements for installation Solar hot water systems shall be certified pursuant to MSA EN12975, MSA EN12976, Solar Keymark or an equivalent certification
