  • New Technical Solutions for Energy Efficient Buildings (2011)-

Commissioned by the SCI Network, this report provides an overview of the different technologies for implementing solar heating and cooling systems in buildings.

This involves a survey of different collector types, a detailed comparison of different chiller types, and an assessment of the advantages and disadvantage of each system. The report also makes recommendations to prepare for implementation of solar heating and cooling system.

  • Small-scale Solar Thermal Energy and Traditional Buildings (2008)-

This 2008 guide from English Heritage (the UK Government's Adviser on the Historic Environment within England) looks into the small-scale generation of solar thermal energy. The emphasis of the document lies on the practicalities that need to be taken into account for the installation of the solar thermal collectors on a historic building. It lists the different aspects that have to be taken into consideration in the planning stage (i.e. orientation, shading, wildlife). The guide also sets out the different installation options.

  • Use of Renewable Energy in Buildings: Experiences with Solar Thermal Utilization (2006)-

This 2006 paper gives an overview of the possibilities of solar thermal applications in buildings in China. The paper looks into the current state of solar thermal applications: solar water collectors, floor radiation heating and air conditioning systems. It also touches upon the design aspects and practicalities of integrating solar systems in both residential and public buildings.

The paper concludes by underlining the expected growth in importance of integrating solar thermal schemes in buildings.
