- Russia: New Solar Collector Production Launched in Penza-
February 2012 has seen the launch of a new serial production of solar collectors in the city of Penza in central Russia, 600 km southeast of Moscow. The new collector type was designed by scientists from the Penza State Technological Academy (PSTA). The rights for the newly developed product belongs to Inten, a small innovative enterprise established by PSTA scientists in spring 2011. The production factory is located at the Nizhnelomovsky Electromechanical Plant, one of Russia’s largest plants in this field.

Russian architect and professor Pavel Kazantsev has won the Energy Globe Award for his solar-heated house Solar-5. The house has been adapted for the far east of Russia, around the city of Vladivostok. While the FEFU university in Vladivostok has already built a small version of the house, called Solar-5M, the first full-scale Solar-5 house for a private owner is now under construction as well. In a next step, Kazantsev and his team have decided to set up a model house, which will be open to the public.

Russian solar thermal system supplier Yuzhgeoteplo is planning to build a new solar collector factory, according to an interview by Russian business paper Delovaya Gazeta Ug with the company’s General Director Vitaly Butuzov. The company is located in Krasnodar Krai, one of Russia’s largest south-west regions at the coast of the Black Sea. The total investment volume is said to be about Russian Rouble (RUB) 52 million (USD 1.7 million). Construction will most likely begin in 2012.

With an estimated market volume of 10,000 m2 in 2009, the solar thermal market in the Ukraine is still in its infancy. The two main customer groups are the new middle class and the tourism sector. By interviewing local collector manufacturers, German agency solrico analysed the potential of the Ukraine and its barriers to market development. The map shows the sites of the solar thermal manufacturers that took part in the survey.

This presentation from 2009 provides an update of the MED-CSD project. The main aim of this project is the assessment of the technico-economic potential of CSP for electricity and desalination in the Mediterranean region. The presentation first gives a global overview by linking the regions suffering from water scarcity with the global potential for concentrating solar power.

A Russian solar thermal pioneer: Boris Kazandzhan, President of Holding Alten, has over 25 years of practical expertise in the solar energy sector. He has now developed a new generation of collectors with a multi-layer polycarbonate casing. Serial production is planned for the first half of 2010.
