  This presentation was created by Pete Shoemaker of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). It covers the current state of the solar thermal industry, some of the basic science behind solar thermal heating, and analyzes a few examples of solar thermal heating in action.

• India: Sufficient Raw Materials for strong Market Growth - Aluminium fins by Indian company Maharaja Techno Chromes: According to the manufacturer, the laser-welded fins are nearly 60 % less expensive than copper ones and market acceptance is satisfying. Efficiency is certainly still a bit lower.

• Cupori Group brings out cleaner copper tubes- The Finnish company Cupori Group Oy, which in the spring took over the copper business of Outokumpu Copper Tube, now supplies a copper tube with a particularly clean surface. At the Intersolar 2008 in Munich in June the company presented its new “Tub-e” copper tubes, although still under the old name. They are claimed to have a particularly clean surface thanks to a thermal cleaning process. According to Cupori, welding times during absorber manufacture are shorter with the new tubes.
