Solar Thermal Case Study: Shouldice Hospital (2012)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on June 14, 2015

This case study was written by by Gemco Solar. It profiles a solar thermal water heating and air cooling and heating system they installed on the Shouldice Hospital in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada.

Displacing a natural gas and electric based system, Gemco installed 131 solar thermal collectors and 10 solar thermal cooling machines on the hospital. The systems account for roughly 55% of the hospital’s total energy use. Each year, the system is project to displace over 100 metric tons of CO2 emissions that the hospital would have otherwise created with their previous system.
