Saudi Arabia: Women’s University with Solar District Heating



A 25.4 MWth plant produces heat for the women’s university in Saudi Arabia, the Princess Nora Bint Abdul Rahman University in Riyadh. The campus offers space for 40,000 students, lecturers and other staff, 13 faculties, accommodations, research facilities and a hospital. The collectors feed the heat into the return line of the district heating system. The grid´s return temperature is 72 °C, the feed-in temperature 92 °C. The Austrian company AEE Intec designed the primary solar loop, including field hydraulics, stagnation behavior and safety features. Millennium Energy Industries from Jordan was responsible for setting up the plant.
