Presentation on the Initative for Transforming and Strengthening the Solar Thermal Water Heating Market- Mexico Case (2011)
This is a presentation done by Mr. Edgar Marin from OLADE during the UNEP (United National Environment Programme) Regional Workshop held in Chile, in June 2011, about the UN-funded project Solar Water Heating Transformation and Strengthening Initiative.
It outlines the progress achieved by Mexico in the implementation of the above-mentioned UN-funded project which aims at creating a favorable regulatory framework, a sustainable market demand and 2.5 million m² of installed collector capacity by 2012. After having described the structure and activities of the project, the focus is directed towards the main achievements: the removal of legislative, technical and financial barriers through better legislation, efforts in adopting product standards and supporting market uptake through different incentives and fiscal facilities.
Another underlined aspect is that sound project management and strict national and international oversight have played a key role in ensuring the encouraging results obtained. Finally, the author outlines not only lessons acquired, but also the next steps to be taken in support of the project.
