Emerging Industry & Occupations Report (2008)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on June 21, 2009

In 2008 the Centers of Excellence (COE) conducted a survey of 212 solar and solar-related businesses throughout California, which enabled to identify the regions within California that exhibited the greatest need for workers: the Bay Area; the Greater Sacramento area; Southern California; and Los Angeles County.

This survey leads to this report which covers the employment by solar-related firms with charts and maps that show where the concentration of hiring is being done in California. It gives a rundown on the employers and breaks down which firms are non-manufacturing, installers and contractors and where they are located.

The document also includes a list of solar programmes and courses providing the necessary skill set for solar installation work. It also refers the challenges California solar industry employers are facing nowadays and creates prospects about the industry needs and future employment.
