Solarceo is the brand name of a brand new coating, which was introduced for the first time on the fair Intersolar middle of June in Munich, Germany. The new coated absorber sheet result from a accurate study of the solar market and the strength of ArcelorMittal R&D. Solarceo is produced by a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal, Arceo, on a new PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) line based in Liège, Belgium. "The multilayer coating deposited today on copper base has been developed to reach the highest standards of performances in solar absorptance and emittance," says Pierre Mahy , commercial director of Arceo."PVD is a breakthrough technology for steel. We have other new products based on steel for various non solar applications to come and we are proud to enter into the solar business with our Solarceo," explains Mahy. The new coated absorber sheet results from a good working Belgian partnership with the strong solar thermal R&D company European Solar Engineering SA (ESE). ESE started to use the coating formula in 2005 on narrow copper coils. “It is well tested,” states Jean Paul Vantomme from ESE. “The Solarceo from Arceo, with a width up to 1,200 mm, will certainly be an important player on the solar market.” So far there are two competitors of solar coatings which use PVD technology: Alanod Aluminium Veredlung GmbH & Co KG and Almeco Tinox - both German companies. Technical details of the Solarceo solar copper absorbers:

Width 1,200 mm

Thickness 0.2 mm ± 0.02 mm

Solar absorptance 95 % ± 2 %

Thermal emittance 5 % ± 2 %
