France: Third Solar District Heating Conference Call for Paper

BalmaAfter Denmark and Germany, it will now be France’s turn to host the Solar District Heating Conference. Researchers, as well as representatives from municipality utilities and solar thermal system suppliers will meet in Toulouse on 17 and 18 June 2015 to discuss international case studies, new business models and marketing strategies. The two-day event will consist of a mix of panel discussions, presentations by industry experts and site visits. In Toulouse, conference participants can visit the first French solar district heating plant, which is located in the eco-district of Balma and boasts 458 m² of vacuum tube collectors on a shade structure on top of a parking lot (see photo).

France: Viessmann Acquires SAED Technology

French company Viessmann Faulquemont, a subsidiary of the German Viessmann Group, has bought up the assets of French company Sophia Antipolis Energie Developpment (SAED), which was put under turnaround after being declared insolvent in April 2013. Viessmann was one of several investors submitting an offer to the court in April. According to the purchase contracts, which were signed on 16 October, Viessmann Faulquemont will take over the production equipment, the intellectual property, such as the patents and the employees of the company for an undisclosed sum.

France: Restructuring SAED

SAED or Sophia Antipolis Energie Developpement, which is a start-up located in the south of France, produces a heat pipe protected by two patents. The company developed a vacuum tube collector which has been used to build low-cost large-scale solar thermal installations for solar heating, as well as solar industrial processes. In mid-April, SAED was put under turnaround after being declared insolvent. The company is now seeking an investor or buyer while still continuing its two current projects: The district heating network combining solar heat and biomass in Balma is under construction and the consultation process is running regarding a solar district heating network in Juvignac, Montpellier, France. spoke with Franck Giaoui, Managing Director of SAED, about the company´s future.
